Box is our resident tortured beer artist. He has been fermenting the dream of his own little brewery since 2018, and the pandemic kicked him into high gear.

Box, his retired dad and unemployed sister spent most of their days in lockdown experementing with fermentation. Basically anything they could scavenge from the local IGA or scrump from grandpa's fruit trees was fair game.

Since then, he’s learned the art of brewing in commercial breweries and even has some pieces of paper to confirm he can do it without invoking the wrath of the Australian government.

In the winter of 2023 Box justified an extended trip to Europe for “market research”, where he talked his way into a couple of guest brewing spots on the Bermondsey Beer Mile in London.

As an avid beer drinker, he has many opinions of any alcohol lucky enough to pass his bearded lips - hoping maybe one day he'll make a beer that meets his own high standards.

Axel started his brewing journey after receiving a ginger beer kit as an anniversary present from his fiancée nearly a decade ago. Much to her bemusement, this kicked off a serious fascination with brewing and improving his beers.

Sharing his brews with his friends over many years was a delight, and he thoroughly enjoyed making beers for friends parties and events. This drove him to pursue the idea of brewing professionally.

Being good mates with Box and his family for many years, they formulated the idea of putting together a small craft brewery themselves.

Axel enjoys the collusion between the scientific process and artistic licence when brewing, and is passionate about bringing his love for beer to the wider Canberra community. He is a third generation Canberran and is passionate about the area and its produce.
